The Association for Social Reform (OPEK<\/strong><\/a>), in cooperation with Politis To The Point<\/strong><\/a>, the English-language online publication of the Politis Media Group<\/strong><\/a>, is organizing a workshop on Tuesday, 23 June 2026 at 18:00<\/strong>, dedicated to the exchange of experiences and best practices in countering disinformation and fake news.<\/p>\n The event will take place at the Ground Floor of the Politis Newspaper Building<\/strong>, located at 8 Vasileiou Voulgaroktonou Street, 1010 Nicosia<\/strong><\/a> and is addressed to journalists, researchers, fact-checkers, and citizens interested in European affairs and geopolitical developments.<\/p>\n The workshop aims to facilitate the exchange of best practices in fact-checking, combating disinformation, and understanding the narratives that influence democracy, security, and stability in Europe. Particular emphasis will be placed on developing effective counter-narratives and strengthening the resilience of democratic societies against organized disinformation campaigns.<\/p>\n Presentations and practical case studies will be delivered by Loukia Taxitari<\/strong> (Fact-Check Cyprus<\/a>), Kyriakos Pieridis<\/strong> (Cyprus Investigative Reporting Network \u2013 CIReN<\/a>), and Nikolas Karydis<\/strong> (Institute for Mass Media \u2013 IMME<\/a>).<\/p>\n The academic perspective will be presented by Michalis Zervianos<\/strong>, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT).<\/p>\n Opening remarks will be delivered by Theano Kalavana<\/strong>, Chairperson of the Board of OPEK, Thanos Athanasiou<\/strong>, Press Officer of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, and Eleni Constantinou<\/strong>, Secretary General of the Cyprus Union of Journalists.<\/p>\n The event will be moderated by Peggy Spinelli<\/strong>, Editor-in-Chief of Politis To The Point<\/em>.<\/p>\n The discussion is organized within the framework of the project \u201cSecuring a European and Democratic Future\u201d<\/strong>, implemented under the EU Presidency Project 2024\u20132026 (EUPP5)<\/strong> with the support of CARDET<\/strong>.
